What's Next after MEDICINE?

Background

I do a lot of online consultation and counselling via my Let's Talk form.

I have noticed the need to have a FAQs regarding the above question which most usually begets a few subsequent questions.

Initially I am hoping to make a book out of narratives people that have walked the different paths after resigning from medicine. But at the moment, our (group of editors) commitment to other things outweigh the authoring work. So, it has not been progressing well.

Opening remarks

I share a lot of principles rather than a specific plan. It's meant to be a guide for the numerous character of people that I do come across. There's no one-size-fits-all solution.

I also don't want to impose what works for me on others. I mean specific choices and actions.

First, you must be well before you can be successful. You are your own capital. There's nothing that can limit you from achieving the best of your abilities. Every person has their own unique characteristics and set of talents.

Second, work is challenging no matter what job you do. It's just a different sort of challenge in different jobs. However, if you really like what you're doing, you're willing to embrace that challenge. You're keen to move forward despite setbacks. So, I always use this as a yardstick to measure passion or interest in someone that doesn't really have a clue what to do.

Third, keep moving. Don't stop waiting. Do something to benefit yourself and others. Waiting allows useless thoughts to come. Doing allows opportunity knocking on your door. Many that I have talked to and myself included got transitioned into new areas of work because of this principle.

Right, so that's basically a guide for you. Mostly things I learned a lesson the hard way, supported by other's experiences.

What's NEXT?

I will basically share several routes available.

Do read this together with my other post "Going Forward>>".

I will try to do it in the next several postings, insyallah.
